Grant Me the Spirit of Humility

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” — James 4:10

In the divine journey of Going Higher with Jesus Christ, one virtue stands as the gateway to true spiritual elevation—humility. Scripture makes it abundantly clear: God exalts the humble but resists the proud (1 Peter 5:5–6). To go higher in God’s purpose, presence, and power, we must first go lower in posture, recognizing our complete dependence on Him.

Humility is not weakness; it is strength submitted to divine authority. It is the sincere acknowledgment that everything we have and hope to become is by the mercy and grace of God. It reflects in our willingness to obey God without resistance, to serve others without seeking applause, and to yield our hearts fully to God’s correction and leading.

When we humble ourselves before the Lord, we create the atmosphere for divine lifting. God begins to entrust us with deeper revelations, greater assignments, and higher callings—because He knows pride will not corrupt our stewardship. Jesus, our perfect example, humbled Himself to the point of death, and for that reason, God highly exalted Him (Philippians 2:5–11). In the same way, as we embrace the spirit of humility, we are positioned for supernatural advancement.

To receive the spirit of humility, we must daily pray for a tender and teachable heart, commit to serving others joyfully, and renounce every form of self-centeredness. It is a conscious decision to decrease so that Christ may increase in us (John 3:30).

Indeed, humility is the path to greatness in God’s kingdom. As we walk this path, may we echo the prayer of every sincere seeker: “Lord, grant me the spirit of humility, and lift me up in Your time and for Your glory.”
