IF YOU FIND YOURSELF WEEPING OVER THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN BUT STILL DRAWN TO IT!

My Counsel: Know that you’re not alone in this struggle. It’s a sign that your heart desires something better, but true freedom requires going deeper than regret—it calls for repentance.

Regret focuses on the pain and loss caused by sin, but repentance focuses on turning away from sin because it grieves the heart of God. As 2 Corinthians 7:10 says, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation.” This kind of sorrow helps you see sin for what it truly is—destructive to your soul and dishonoring to God.

Ask yourself: Do I hate the sin itself, or do I only hate the trouble it brings? Pray and ask God to give you a heart that loves what He loves and hates what He hates. Surrender your struggle to Him, trusting in His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit to break the hold of sin in your life. Remember, you cannot do this in your own strength, but through Christ, you can walk in freedom (Philippians 4:13).

Take practical steps, too. Avoid situations that tempt you to return to the sin. Surround yourself with godly influences, immerse yourself in God’s Word, and seek accountability with a trusted spiritual mentor. As you draw closer to God, your love for Him will grow stronger than your attachment to the sin, and He will empower you to live a life that pleases Him.

Sincerely
