Title: WALKING ON WATER

Matthew 14:22 ‘…Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go…’ (NIV)

When facing unexpected trouble, it’s easy to wonder, “Did I do something wrong? Is God punishing me?” Yet, challenges in life don’t always stem from mistakes or punishment; often, they are part of following God’s path. In Matthew 14:22, Jesus instructed His disciples to get into a boat and cross the sea. They obeyed, yet soon encountered a fierce storm. This wasn’t a result of disobedience or rejection of God’s will but of doing exactly what Jesus asked. This passage reveals two important lessons for us when we find ourselves “walking on water” through life’s storms.

1) Obedience Doesn’t Guarantee a Life Free of Storms
The disciples had just witnessed Jesus perform a miracle, feeding thousands with limited resources. This was a powerful reminder of His ability to provide and protect. Yet, when a storm arose, they were overwhelmed with fear, seemingly forgetting the miracle they’d just seen. This teaches us that, while obedience to God is rewarding, it doesn’t mean we won’t encounter difficulties. God’s path can include challenging waters, not because He’s absent, but because He plans to meet us within those struggles. When He doesn’t immediately calm the storm, it’s an opportunity for us to experience His presence in new ways and emerge with greater faith.

2) Fear is Part of the Journey, Not a Sign of Failure
When the disciples panicked, it wasn’t because they were weak or inadequate. It was a human reaction to a real threat. Fear is natural, reminding us of our dependence on God. The key is not allowing fear to drive us from faith but using it as a reminder of who holds ultimate power. Even when overwhelmed, we can find peace knowing God is in control, even of the storm.

In conclusion, “walking on water” symbolizes stepping into challenges with trust, knowing that God is with us. When we understand these lessons, we transform trials into triumphs, fortified by the assurance of His presence and power.
